Des Moines, IA (May 8, 2019) - Austin McCarl and TKS Motorsports saw themselves back at Knoxville Raceway after mother nature won the previous week. The team had a busy week on and off the track.
The team started their busy week on Thursday by showing the Southeast Polk automotive students a different side of the automotive industry. Owner Troy Renfro, talked to the students about how he got started in the racing industry, what it takes to own a Sprint Car team, and how important it is to follow your passion.
As Saturday rolled around, it was clear it was going to be another stout field. As thirty-one cars hit the track for qualifying. Austin timed in tenth quickest, putting him in the second row outside of the third heat race. Finishing fifth in his heat, put Austin and his Casey’s General Stores/Midwest Basement Systems #2KS in the twelfth starting position for the A-Main.
Unfortunately the A-Main did not go as well as the team had hoped... with a mud clod breaking off one of the spark plugs, Austin was able to finish in 10th place on 7 cylinders. “I run 20 Gauge stainless steel plug guards that wrap around the front of the headers like others do” said car owner Troy Renfro, “that’s the second right side one we have destroyed this year so I need to come up with something better for the way things are”.
After the A-main Austin and car owner Troy Renfro went Facebook Live to draw eight people to become lucky winners of a 1/4 of beef presented by Hopf Farms. “I don’t think I have ever seen Austin so nervous to go live, not even before a race” said car owner Tammy Renfro. TKS Motorsports and the entire Team would like to thank Hopf Farms for this great opportunity for our fans. “We had a lot of participation in the raffle, we just wish everyone could have won” said car owner Tammy Renfro.
